What You Need
1-2 large handfuls of spinach
1 chopped, frozen banana
1/2 cup chopped, frozen (or fresh) pineapple
1 cup unsweeted cocount milk
1 TBSP chia, flax or hemp seeds
I love experimenting with new Green Smoothie recipes since I drink one every day! This was a random creation because I was craving something tropical and wanted to combine some of my favorite ingredients. The coconut milk makes this smoothie so delicious that you’ll quickly forget that it’s healthy for you!
Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender (I use Nutri-bullet, but Ninja and Vitamix are great options as well) and blend until smooth. The avocado is a great optional ingredient as it will make the smoothie more filling and add some creamy thickness to it. I add avocado if I’m drinking a smoothie for a mid-day meal replacement or post workout snack, but I avoid avocado in the mornings. The good-for-you fats in avocados can be difficult for some people to digest on an empty stomach. I love avocados, but I suffer from stomach cramps if I eat (or drink) one first thing in the morning. I will be honest that the avocado does detract from the tropical taste in this smoothie, so if you use avocado, play around with adding more pineapple or banana if you want to sweeten it up! Chia, Flax, and Hemp seeds are amazing additions to a smoothie. They add filling fiber, protein and Omega 3’s and 6’s without impacting the taste of your smoothie. Hemp Seed is higher in protein than Chia and Flax, but it has less fiber and less Omega 3’s. I like to use a mix of Hemp and Chia to really get a good mix of protein, fiber and omega’s in my smoothies. 1/2 to 1 Tablespoon of each is a good recommendation for any of these three.
Drinking this smoothie may make you feel like you’re relaxing on a tropical beach, and you’ll feel good doing it! This is a guilt-free, satisfyingdrink that will help you get the fruits and veggies you need while making you feel like you’re indulging!
